History
Raja Parba is a distinctive Odia festival celebrated over several days at the beginning of the monsoon season. It honours womanhood and Mother Earth, recognizing fertility, renewal and the agricultural cycle as the soil rests before the next phase of cultivation.
Importance
The festival celebrates dignity, rest, nature and the role of women in family and society. It is also a joyful seasonal occasion associated with swings, new clothes, games and traditional Odia food.
How It's Celebrated
Girls and women wear new clothes, decorate themselves with alta, enjoy swings and indoor games, and take a break from routine household work. Families prepare pitha, especially poda pitha, and celebrate the arrival of the rains.

Poda Pitha is closely associated with Raja. The slow-baked rice and lentil cake develops a deeply caramelized crust and is one of Odisha’s most treasured festival foods.
